‌Our professional learning community is focused on preparing our students for a successful transition to high school. Our staff, in partnership with parents and the community will provide our students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will allow them personal success in their educational and working lives. ‌ Indicators of success will include Provincial Achievement Tests, Highest Level of Achievement Tests and 7-9 course completion results.‌

Character Education is an important part of our success here at Kate Chegwin. Check out our Character Policy to see what we are striving to see in our students as well as our plan to prevent and deal with bullying.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Kate Chegwin Jr. High School, a community of learners where excellence is fostered by our commitment to incorporating relevance, rigour and relationships into every aspect of our programming both in the class and in the diverse extra-curricular activities that we offer. Through this emphasis the fundamental qualities of character including perseverance, integrity, kindness, cooperation and empathy emerge. Our community of learners takes pride in our reputation for outstanding character and academics and of course in our building, a truly dynamic and innovative design.

At Kate Chegwin, we invite you to join us in our journey as we ask and reflect upon four essential questions:

1. What do we want our students to learn?

2. How will we know they are learning?

3. How will we respond when they don’t learn?

4. How will we respond when they do learn?

(DuFour et.al)

Fundamental in this journey is the input of our parents and community to these questions. Research repeatedly shows us that students do much better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. Throughout the year we will be inviting you to participate in your child’s education. Please do not hesitate to communicate with your child’s teacher or contact the office at any time during the year.
